It was 18 months ago when I heard of the plan for Mix Design store, and I wanted to raise my hand immediately and enthusiastically – like a child that’s been asked to to participate in a magic show on stage. Pick me! Pick me! My husband, Tom, told me to relax…and get real. It would take time, but we would get there…
Betsy, Jennifer, and Wendy had an 11 year old Mix on our famed Guilford Green; a beautifully curated collection of on-the-mark gifts, treasures, and unexpected delights…their vision and talents realized in a shop I had frequented almost since its conception when we moved to town, just a stone’s throw from this special store. Back then, I would stop in just to be there, likely making excuses for needs or wants to justify more time in such a feel-good, smell-good, sound-good, look-good space.
Over the years, I’ve had some of the best interactions in Mix – with our three pioneers but also with the community that Mix fosters – neighbors, friends, warm strangers – while making the most thoughtful purchases that leave me not only smiling but always returning with energy, excitement, and hope…
Mix has been a respite, a luxury of time, and a hurried 5 minute “I need this for this (insert friend, teacher, birthday, baby, wedding, shower gift) and I need it now…help!” stop. Mix has been the children’s “special treat”, a one-stop Christmas shop, Tom’s birthday go-to, the dog’s water break, ladies night, and a generous neighbor for the worthiest initiatives in our village.
I am so excited and so incredibly grateful to be taking the reigns of this beautiful shop and legacy and cannot give credit where credit is due enough to the three founders (they hate that word) that have made this chapter – with many more to come – possible and worthwhile.
Thank you for your continued support and interest in Mix and for welcoming our family into this one.
Maggie, Tom, Elizabeth, Bruen, and Miles
